The Barangaroo precinct is Sydney newest corporate hub. Following the coastline down from Darling Harbour, connectivity to the rest of the CBD has been improved by connections to King Street and Wynyard station. However, to continue this connection, it was only natural that it become a part of the Sydney Metro network.
The vision for the cut and cover station was to ensure the appearance of the station didn’t disrupt the natural feel of the space, and capitalized on the expansive and breathtaking views across the harbour. As lead Fire Engineers, we were also tasked with ensuring the station successfully integrated with the Sydney Metro operations, adjacent buildings and the surrounding green space
What we did differently
We devised performance solutions that would let the egress paths and escape routes ease seamlessly into the landscape, minimizing impact on the surrounding space, while still servicing the projected demand for the service.
We also created flexible solutions underground that gave the client and the precinct options to integrate the adjacent, but un-designed development into the station infrastructure. This will support the continued and changing needs of the Barangaroo area, giving developers the flexibility to provide the services and amenities visitors need, whilst keeping the precinct a safe and cohesive space that celebrates Sydney’s natural beauty.
