Sydney’s new generation metro is one of the largest public transport projects in Australia’s history. By 2024, Sydney will have more than 31 Metro stations and 66km of rail system which will connect Sydney’s western precincts to the CBD, improve intercity travel and enhance the travelling experience for millions of tourists and residents in Sydney.
The Sydney Metro City and Southwest extends the metro rail 30km from Chatswood, under Sydney Harbour, through the new CBD stations and out to Bankstown. The delivery of safe stations and tunnels will be essential for the workers, commuters and tourists, while holistic and sustainable solutions will give future generation options to maintain and scale the sites to grow with our thriving city.
What we did differently
PBC provided Fire Engineering advice, creating 12 solutions to date that will improve the safety, efficiency and aesthetic of stations along the line.
However, we know these strategies will only work best when implemented holistically throughout each station design, and when considered with all passenger situations in mind. As such, communicating with the many stakeholders and subconsultants throughout the project has been a hugely important part of success in this project.
PBC is pleased to be continuing to work on the project through into the final design stages.
